"Skateboard Graveyard” pays homage to the positive and successful developments of the campaign to save London’s famed Southbank Skate park.
With public support of over 70,000 petition signatures online alone, it has recently been decided to abolish all plans to remodel the Southbank (pushing the skaters from the bleak, graffiti-splattered enclave of banks, ledges and stair-sets they have carved out, to a new council-built spot beneath nearby Hungerford Bridge).
"Skateboard Graveyard" was taken of one of the Hungerford Bridge supports and to the artist is symbolic of rebellion against Gentrification in its corporate form, in this case being the "would be" graveyard of urban street culture, of individualism and artistic expression.
